Picnic in a Jar

Let's start with the famous quote of the day from my husband (who truly does appreciate my craftiness)- "Kids, we'll go hiking as soon as your mom is done Pinteresting our lunch".

But in all reality, picnics can be messy! Where's the napkins? Where's a spoon? My plate just flew with the wind! Before a bite is even taken, sometimes the exhaustion has already taken over. In the midst of the Missouri Monsoon weather, we caught a glimpse of sunshine and the need to enjoy a picnic with our hike. I wanted to simplify the hassle that tags along with eating outside. I gathered all our extra mason jars and set out create an easy, mess free, earth friendly picnic.

Each sandwhich was wrapped in butcher paper to also serve as the plate with a folded napkin place inside the wrapping. I then put left over baked potato salad into jars and tied each spoon onto the jar neck with twine so the search for plastic ware would be eliminated. Dessert was a layered strawberry shortcake,Cool Whip, and fresh strawberries jar dessert with a fork tied to the neck.

By the end of cherishing every ray of sunshine and enjoying every bite of lunch, no one could deny how incredibly effortless our picnic was to set up and clean up.

Go out, enjoy the sunshine, the beauty of the outdoors, and don't forget your picnic in a jar!
