Simple but Significant

There’s something about summertime that makes my spirit crave sunshine and savoring every minute of time spent with family. It also leaves a craving for adventure.
This summer, we had no big plans to travel and honestly, it just wasn’t in the works for us to venture far from home. We wanted something.....simple but significant.
This weekend was just what our hearts needed and the exact remedy to quench our souls. We don’t get the chance to visit back home often and if we do, it’s usually a quick drop in and I often have to remind my overly planned, list making, itinerary focused mind that the unplanned moments make the best memories.
In one of my many daily conversations with my mom, I mentioned the idea of camping in their backyard......a couple hours later, mom called with excitement that Nanny and Pop’s backyard campground would be open for our visit.
As we rolled in Friday evening, we were welcomed with hugs, a newly made fire pit with a bonfire, an outdoor buffet with all the fixin’s for s’mores, and a camper stocked with all the snacks. We had nothing on our agenda but to savor the weekend and live simply. Nan and pop’s house became known as “the shower house” and “the cook shack”.
Heading back home, it was hard to not give recognition to how simple and significant our get away was. Simple in the ways of home cooked meals, chasing lightning bugs, catching chickens, swimming in the creek and catching up on chatter until our eyes grew heavy with the night. Significant in that we cherished our time together and slowed our pace to soak it all in. Significant in all the simple moments that our hearts will forever hold as cherished memories. We may not have conquered our summer bucket list but this summer we have kept it simple and significant while living in the moments.
